FIX: the reduction in breast cancer Can affect the survival?

NEW YORK (Reuters Health)-a woman's breast cancer diagnosis, inevitably, to sink the mood, but those whose spirits lift over time will appear to survive longer, a new study suggests.

The researchers found that mood lightened year advanced breast cancer in women in the course of the investigation was residing in more than two years longer than those whose mood deteriorated.

But they caution that the possible body connection is still uncertain is far from clear that the depression has a shorter survival in the root directory.

Depression can be attributed to a number of ways, which will be linked to cancer progression--from descending on the immune function by adding inflammation, body, Alberta, Canada's leading researcher, Janine GIESE at-Davis, University of Calgary.

"When the physiological changes are chronic, we believe that they deplete the resources of the institution, in which case more difficult for the patient to recover," he told Reuters Health in an e-mail message.

In the previous investigations is addressed to more than half of cancer patients, suffering from some form of depression, around 38% in such a way as to develop a significant decline; courses vary depending on site and stage of cancer.

New research GIESE at Davis and his colleagues identified more than 100 women with breast cancer in the San Francisco Bay Area, which had started to spread to other parts of the body, the so-called metastatic cancer.

They randomly selected approximately half of patients to undergo a specific inspection of the support group therapy once a week. All of the women received training materials and shall be informed of their depression symptoms of four, eight and 12 months.

The researchers found that half of them, whose depression symptoms decreased during the first year and at least another lived in four and a half years, slightly more than two years, compared with half the symptoms worsening yksikkoarvoltaan.

Depression-enhancements highlight opportunities for lifeboats 14 years up to 68%, also inform the clinical onkologian Journal of researchers.

They could not find the severity of the depression in the beginning of the investigation and subsequent survival, however, neither of the relationship between, on the one hand, and the group therapy, and antidepressant use appeared to affect how long women lived.

"For us, the results did not specify one particular treatment," explains GIESE at Davis, noting that the therapy and lifestyle can be effectively. "The only thing that Belgium had a reduction in symptoms of depression over time."

When it is too early to be sure whether the depression can really reduce the survival of the establishment, he said, referring to the doctors, patients and their families, knowing that the next reduction in chronic diseases may adopt, in accordance with the significance of the toll.

"We are not the opinion of the Advocate General at the simply" thinking positive, "" noted GIESE at Davis. "It is plain that the patient to feel sad, angry and fearful."

Instead, he said, talking about these feelings openly and that could be useful in overcoming depression "to improve your quality of life, social relations, operations, and the ability to track the sound of their own, as a result of the recommendations made by the doctor."
